In the first week Pastor Mark set the tone for this series by taking a look at a biblical character called Jehoshaphat and how to turn your worry into worship. Last week he talked about Job and how to you worship when you’re wounded. This morning we’re going to look at a man named Abraham.

Job was an extremely wealthy, wise and righteous man. But in one 24 hour day he lost his wealth, his family and his health. He was deeply wounded physically, emotionally and relationally. Yet in the book of Job it tells the story of how he worshiped God instead of becoming bitter.
The most important time for you to worship is when you’re wounded. How do you do that? The first way you worship when you’re wounded is...

Each one of the aspects of worship we’re going to look at this morning can be seen in one of my favorite Bible stories in the book of 2 Chronicles chapter 20. It’s the story of how three enemy nations ganged up to defeat King Jehoshaphat and the nation of Israel.

Any financial advisor, money manager, or portfolio manager will tell you not to put all your eggs in one basket. You need a balanced portfolio. So, you put your money into different funds.
Did you know that God has different funds that you can invest in for eternity? That’s what we’re going to look at today. These funds are proven. They have a track record. They’re protected. They are risk free and they yield enormous dividends.

During the month of January we’ve been in a series of messages about “Financial Fitness” and we’re looking at God’s laws concerning money. God has given certain laws about finances in his Word – laws about spending, saving, investing, managing, and giving.
In week one, we looked at seven laws of wise money management in the parable of the talents that Jesus taught in Matthew 25. Then last week, we looked at the law of contentment. This week, we’re going to look at a third law of money called the law of sowing and reaping.

Contentment is very important because as long as your yearnings exceed your earnings you’re going to keep going deeper and deeper in debt. Did you know that there are over 2,350 verses in the Bible about money? Did you know that nearly half the parables Jesus taught are about possessions? Jesus talked more about money than he did about heaven or hell combined. Why? Because we spend more time thinking about money than heaven or hell. We spend more time thinking about how to get it, how to make it, how to save it, how to spend it, how to invest it, how to protect it, how to insure it than anything else. It dominates much of our lives.
So, this weekend we’re going to look at the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25 where Jesus gives us seven foundational principles for financial fitness. The first principle is:

This morning for our first service of the New Year in 2012 I’d like to share with you some very important things that are vital not only for our church but also for your individual life. Is it important to understand your purpose in life? Yes! That’s why throughout this New Year the theme of our church is going to be “Living A Life Of Purpose.”
Your purpose in life is far greater than your personal fulfillment or success. You were made by God and you were made for God and you were put here for His purposes. And until you understand that, life isn’t going to make sense.

This weekend the whole world is shut down for Christmas. Stores and offices are closed and very few people are on the freeway. It’s amazing that an event that happened over 2000 years ago can still have such a profound affect on us today all the way on the other side of the world.
So, what’s the big deal about Christmas? Why is it so important? What difference does it make to me? What’s so special about Christmas? Three things:
