This morning I went for my regular morning bike ride. Did about 12 miles and the whole time I could smell the garbage trucks that were driving up and down the streets picking up the trash. In fact, a lot of the time it seemed like I was following behind them. The stench was terrible.
That made me think about how a lot of people experience the same thing in their life. They’re going through life and everything stinks.
Their job stinks, their marriage stinks, their relationships with their friends or kids stinks. Everything just stinks!
It’s like the old man that was taking a nap on the couch, his seven-year-old grandson gets some Limburger cheese from the refrigerator and smears it on grandpa’s mustache.
When grandpa wakes up, he says, “This room stinks!”
He goes to another room and says, “This room stinks.”
After walking throughout the house, he says, “The whole house stinks!”
Grandpa goes outside and takes a deep breath and says, “The whole world stinks!”
It’s hard not to think everything stinks when you have something smelly on your top lip or are following behind a garbage truck.
If you want things to stop stinking you have to stop following the garbage trucks in life and start following Jesus.
Proverbs 15:14 A wise man is hungry for truth, while the mocker feeds on trash. (LB)
